Термин подразумевает процесс биологического окисления различных органических соединений, включающий участок окислительной цепи с сопряжённым фосфорилированием и генерацией молекул АТФ.
Форма клеточного дыхания, происходящего без участия молекулярного кислорода, при которой субстрат не окисляется полностью до двуокиси углерода и воды.
Процесс полного окисления углеводов на двуокись углерода и воду с использованием молекулярного кислорода.
Один из видов анаэробного дыхания (см. также метаногенез).
Использование в анаэробных условиях некоторыми бактериями нитрата в качестве акцептора электронов для дыхательного метаболизма.
Восстановление серы до сероводорода некоторыми бактериями, способными расти в присутствии элементарной серы и использующими её в качестве акцептора водорода при анаэробном переносе электронов.

дыхание без участия атмосферного кислорода, в котором органические вещества окисляются с высвобождением химической энергии (напр., образование этанола в результате ферментации сахара). При А.д. акцептором электронов выступает не кислород, а нитрат, сульфат или карбонат; напр., способностью восстанавливать нитраты до нитритов обладают многие бактерии и некоторые грибы, а нитриты до молекулярного азота (нитрогена) восстанавливают только денитрифицирующие бактерии (см. денитрифицирующие бактерии).Толковый биотехнологический словарь.
